Which photos work

We only ever meet your pet through the photos you send. A few minutes choosing the right one makes a visible difference to the finished piece.

What we need

  • One clear main photo. Front-facing, whole face visible, taken in good light. This becomes the reference angle.
  • Extra angles if you have them. A side view, and anything that shows markings, tail or coat texture.
  • Detail worth naming. The ear that folds, the patch over one eye, the collar they always wore.

Photos that make life harder

We can work from almost anything, but these cost accuracy:

  • Heavy filters or colour grading — the wool will follow the filter, not your pet.
  • Very dark or very small crops where the eyes are not clearly visible.
  • Photos where your pet is far away in the frame.
  • Only one angle, where the shape of the head is unclear.

Older photos and memorial pieces

Many of our commissions are for pets who have passed away, and the only photos that exist are old prints or phone photographs of prints. Please send them anyway.

Faded prints and photographs of photographs are acceptable — we assess them by hand.
We will tell you honestlyIf your photos are not workable for the format you chose, we will say so before making starts and refund in full. We would rather lose a sale than send you something that does not look like your pet.

Technical notes

  • JPG, PNG, WEBP and GIF are accepted, up to 12 MB each.
  • Send up to eight photos with each commission.
  • Do not edit or retouch the photos — send them as they came off the camera or out of the album.
  • If you would like your pet’s own fur incorporated, select that option in the form and we will email instructions and a mailing address.
